Step Up 3D

So I guess this won't exactly be a regular blog but I will post some times when I see a movie that I really liked just to say my opinion and if it was worth the trouble or not.

I recently went to see Step 3D which I wanted to see for almost 2-3 months, since it hit the cinemas. Finally I managed to see it after long negotiations with Jenny (she doesn't really like this kind of movies) and let me tell you that I had goose bumps at every dance scene. The movie doesn't have a great storyline but they do their best to keep you entertained with fantastic dance moves and a somewhat interesting plot. Quite funny at places and Moose (Adam G. Sevani) definitely keeps it fresh and makes you want to watch the other two movies because you just need another fix.

All in all, I recommend the movie even if you are not a big fan of such movies because you will be amazed and you will at least smile in a few places; Jenny seemed to enjoy it.

P.S. The twins are funny as hell.

LOST

I’ve seen LOST a few days back but didn’t really had the time to say anything about it. It was the series finale and man what a finale. The episode was double the duration they usually make it. I guess they needed more time to explain everything and offer and ending that would satisfy most fans.

From my perspective, they covered each point perfectly; it explained and twisted the explanation around in such a LOST manner that made me remember why I liked it in the first place.

I know I said that the previous LOST episode left me somewhat disappointed, but they definitely made up for it with the ending. I guess they didn’t want to ruin the ending, and so made an episode just to get all the pieces in place, and then knock them down.

If you never seen LOST and are thinking just to see the last season, I would recommend not to. The beauty of LOST is made of a lot of little pieces from the first episode all the way to the last. It really is a puzzle that can only be solved if you have all the pieces. I recommend seeing all the LOST seasons, I will probably start a marathon soon to see it all again in a couple of days.

Precious

I was a bit busy and still am so I won't be posting that often.
I saw Precious a week ago. I was attracted by the title, an illiterate teen who is pregnant and overweight. I thought to myself "This is the worst thing that could happen to somebody", but the movie made me reconsider it. I haven't read the book unfortunately, but I will definitely do it once I get the chance. The story, as I told you earlier is about an overweight(although overweight is a weak word, more like obese)teen that gets pregnant with her second child and gets kicked off from school. The movie is very well made. The mother character is great, it makes you want to hate her, but you also understand her misery somehow. I loved the reality of the movie, it's not about the suburban hot girl that becomes a princess, it's about the real not so attractive girl who dreams of becoming a princess and gets hit by life. I know that terrible things happen to people, especially poor people living in terrible conditions; also I know that poverty makes people crazy and this movie shows that very good.
If you get the chance, watch the movie. You won't be disappointed.

The Others - Must-see

Today I went by Jenny’s house today to hang out and we decided to watch a movie. We wanted to see The Others for some time now so this was our chance.

I have say, I was expecting to see a ghost movie that will make it difficult to close my eyes at night without a final glimpse towards the window. Well, once again I was proven wrong. I don’t mean to say the movie is bad, far from it, but it wasn’t what I expected it to be. It has a couple of twists and turns that will make you smile in a creepy way.

What can I say? I liked it, quite a lot actually; especially because it gives a new perspective, making it unique in its own way. We all saw scary ghost movies and know them inside out, this one is different, it is in a league all of its own. I don’t really want to tell you why I say that because it might ruin the movie for you; although I doubt it.

The way Nicole Kidman plays it’s beyond words; she really is one of my favorite actresses. Along with Fionnula Flanagan (which also is a great actress) and a well written script makes this movie a modern day classic; but don’t take my word for it, see the 7.8 rating on imdb and the Golden Globe nominee, or just see it yourself and make your own ideas about it.

The Savages

I know I should blog about books, but I really don't have much time right now. So, today I felt a little bad and the weather was rainy and I thought I should go buy food that makes me fat and just sit in bed all day watching movies. I only watched one, The Savages. I was a bit reticent at the beginning because the title isn't that great. But the movie is nice. It gave me that warm, fuzzy feeling inside. I almost cried a couple of times. It's also funny sometimes, but don't watch it if you want to watch a comedy because it's more of a drama.
It really made me think about my future a bit and made me consider some changes in my career plans. So, I will say this is a good movie.
Seymour Hoffman does a great job in this movie. I always liked this actor, he's like the hugable, fluffy brother I never had. And the way he portrayed Truman Capote was great.

Paranormal activity.....mmyeah....a Jenny view

I love the way people piss their pants when they read at the beginning at a movie: this movies depicts a true story blah blah....
Of course, many have no idea that this is the found footage technique. But it's good to scare the masses isn't it?

Anyway, back to the creepy movie. Before I started seeing it I was told it's very creepy and I'm going to be scared to death. Well, that gave me great expectations. Ofc, I was disappointed. Except for the final phase, when i felt a little tingle on my back, the movie was as boring as watching the birds migrate on a sunny day at the end of summer.
They tried, what can I say, with a budget of 11 000 dollars to make a cute scary movie. Did anyone notice what a sad couple they were? Omg, I think that was the horror part of the movie. Also, her boyfriend was almost retarded with his camera allover the place. Plus, he didn't have any friends, no wonder the entity hated him. He was lame.
Also, who the bleep wants to really know what happens at night by filming themselves with the camera? I mean, I wouldn't. If there's some scary demon thingy in my home, well just let it be and ignore it. It will go away at some point.
Also, does a ghostly demon thingy leave footprints? I guess not. And if it does, it should set off the alarm. Am I right?
I was expecting to be really scared so I guess that's why I couldn't get in the mood. That's the thing with horror movies. For example, The Grudge and The ring kept me awake for 2 months. This was....uhm....lame? Except for the final part. It's a 5 second scene there that really is nice. It was so sterile...idunno.

Paranormal Activity - creepy movie

I’ve seen Paranormal Activity the other day. Yes, I know it’s been a while since it hit cinemas all over; I just didn’t find the time to go see it.

I have to say that I didn’t find it very scary while I was watching it; maybe it was because the people I was with kept on talking throughout the whole movie. But it is a good movie, I recommend you see it in the cinema or at home with quiet friends. It starts quite slow, but gradually becomes scary keeping you pined to your sit.

I liked it because it has a Blair Witch Project kind of view and quite a nice story. I’m not really a horror fanatic, but this one was ok.

The best thing about it is that it didn’t scare me very much when I saw it, but more the next day. Today we were hearing noises, same as in the movie, and getting a bit scared with a smile on our face. I heard some say that they couldn’t sleep for weeks without looking at the door scared; I just didn’t see it that way. It’s nice for a relaxing evening.

Kick ass - epic fail

I did it!!! Finally I did it. It was a hard journey, filled with moments of extreme boredom and absolute disgust; but I pulled through thinking, hoping something will change in the end and show me that this was not all in vane. Oh well, that moment of clarity never came, and I can’t really say I’m disappointed. I accepted my faith in the 3rd day and just waited the end, which seemed to get further and further away.

It took me three days to see Kick-ass. As you can see it wasn’t really a movie that kept me pined to my seat. Actually, I got bored after 5min and hated it after 6.

I was never really a big fan of comics, but I was looking forward for this movie. It had such potential, the story was crazy enough to work, and just the mention of Nicolas Cage in a movies usually means success; well, that’s not the case with Kick-ass.

I remember laughing at one point while I was watching the movie, but I think it was because my room mate made a joke, rather than saying this movie can make anyone laugh. The biggest thing they did is made a little girl swear, in a family movie; great! It will surely get my vote when it’s nominated for Oscar.

And the best thing about it is that the ending leaves room for a sequel. Can’t wait! I’ll keep a loaded gun close by.

Find movies

I found a new cool site today where you can find movies depending on the mood they give you, time period, place, audience etc. It's great! You guys should definitely try it.

The Bounty Hunter and Transylmania

The bounty hunter- That was a cute movie. Jennifer plays a nice role. I love the way they portray the way women get their way with emotions. The movie is about an ex cop trying to get his ex wife to the police in order to collect the bounty on her head.
It was a cute movie I saw with my friend. It's not amazing, but it's original and sometimes funny. If you plan to have a relaxing evening I definitely recommend it.

Transylmania - A movie about an American group going to Romania. Now, I was very curious how they will show Romania in this movie. Bad, of course, but who cares? I liked the movie. It was idiotic funny. It was a bit boring and the vampire girls were to skinny for my taste but what can I say? I expected things to be worse and I think it beats Twilight. Oh wait, any movie beats Twilight. Btw, Musetta Vander is the hottest woman alive. She's born in 1963. -_-

LOST Series - Almost there

I have just finished watching the latest LOST episode, 6th series, 14th episode ‘The last candidate’. Let me start by saying that I’ve been a LOST fan since it first aired in September back in 2004. I found the story quite nice, and each episode left me waiting excited for the next one. All the twists and turns, the flash forwards and backwards, the story of each main character made it very interesting and earned itself a spot in my top five favorite TV series.

Earlier this year they announced that this is the last season, and that they will explain all that it is to explain in these last 18 episodes. Well, we are almost there and the story doesn’t seem to become that clearer, actually each explanation makes you ask more questions.

This episode was more of a disappointment then any others seen recently. I can’t really put my finger on it as to why; but the lines weren’t that great, and I think that the camera man was high, or the director called in sick. Something was off, and it showed throughout the whole episode. LOST usually gives me goosebumps, and I have to say that this one lacked in that department.

Maybe it’s just me, and I’m just starting to see the real show (I hope not, that would be such a disappointment); or maybe they are saving all their shots for the final episodes, maybe they are pulling their punches.

Hopefully I will be able to write about the ending in 2 weeks with a big smile on my face. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

Avatar Movie, another average tale

I was thinking the other day about this post; being the first movie related post, it must have some meaning to it. Most of my favorite movies came to mind and each of them made a compelling argument.

How High; yea we all know and love this movie; I saw it like 48 times and it still makes me laugh. The thing about How High is that it’s kind of old, and if you haven’t seen it by now, you probably won’t like it that much even if I convince you it’s worth a shot.

Another favorite would have to be Batman The Dark Knight. What? I liked the way The Joker made the perfect villain; thumbs up for Heath Ledger and may he rest in peace.

So…here we go. I would like to introduce the most sheep go with the crowd movie so far. It is one of the most idiotic storylines, but it had that something that made everyone want to see it.. Yes, I’m talking about James Cameron’s very own Avatar. In case you’ve been living under a rock and this is the first time you hear about such madness, I suggest a quick Google search. I for one think that the South Park episode about Cartman being a false strumf, in which they make fun of Avatar, was way better.

But, moving on… I went and saw Avatar like everyone else, as soon as it appeared in cinemas in 3D. I have to say that the effects are quite good, and it shows that they actually put some work into it. It revolutionized 3D and made it available to the general public. When I got out of that cinema, I had a smile on my face, but it soon went away. It is in essence, a story with a popular theme, where somebody is taking things using force. But I still like it, it’s so fresh and well drawn and so…blue. Oh yea, I even saw the Blu-ray version; it’s worth the money for a nice relaxing evening on the couch along with your loved one. Because even if the movie isn’t that great, it still can be considered a good movie; and it is definitely a must-see.

Here is the official Avatar trailer:

How much I hated Twilight movie/book

I know I’m supposed to write about books, but the thing is I hated Twilight movie too much.

I also read the book, because everybody was crazy when it came out. Anyway, the book was written in a very simple manner, with terrible conversations, the characters were lacking any intelligence, and it was full of clichés. However, if you need something easy to read while you’re in the subway, the book is actually perfect. It’s entertaining, but in a very chick lit style (although I know some books that fit this style and are way better than Twilight could ever be). You know those TV shows were you get to see people fighting and they make you feel like your IQ is dropping while you watch them? That’s the feeling I got from Twilight. I couldn’t stop reading it, although it was extremely predictable and made me feel like a retard.

Now the movie. All those terrible scenes where he smells her like a piece of warm meat made me want to put lemon juice inside my eyelids. And the way he sparkled in the sun, like a magical pony… There are no words to describe how much I hated Twilight movie. I also hate the actors, Robert Pattison looks like a pale R2D2 with a 18 century look in his eyes and that Kristen gal is the most ordinary woman I ever saw. I know the girl was supposed to be ordinary, but when she plays like an emphatic Bambi I can’t suppress my gag reflex.

Overall the book and the movie are fine, if you are extremely bored and have nothing else to do or you want to have some fun with your friends.

About Jenny

Hello Internet.
We are just getting this blog off the ground, so we thought it will be appropriate for us to introduce ourselves. I don’ really like to talk about me, so I’ll tell u about Jenny.
Oh Jenny, where should I start?
Well, some would say that Jenny is a born cynic with a dark look upon mankind, a sarcastic sense of humor, an annoying need to be right, and with the ability to find something wrong in everything (except me). Oh yea, and she also thinks she’s an independent woman.
Nevertheless, she is a great person with numerous hobbies and with a vast range of dreams and goals. She likes to plan everything ahead of time, and take action when needed, although she is quite shy. I’m happy to be part of these plans, and hopefully, I will be for some time to come.
Oh yes, I mentioned she has a great number of hobbies. I’m not going to give you a list, just want to point out her biggest hobby. Reading!
Reading is one of Jenny’s great pleasures. She read over 400 books so far, and she is more than capable to dissect each one of them in order to show others what makes reading so great.
She hates Jessica Alba, whiskey, dogs; loves flowers, hello kitty, and sprinkles (because everything is better with sprinkles).

About John...

Hello world!
You must be wondering who we are. Well, I am a bookworm and John is a movie freak. So, we decided to blog about these two hobbies of ours. I like to criticize, he mostly sees the positive side in everything.
We decided to introduce one another, so I have to write about John now. Well, he likes movies, ofc. He loves cars more than he loves women, which is a bit odd. Anyway, I always wanted to have a blog with someone and this is my chance. Now, let’s get to John. He’s a very chaotic person, has no plans, no idea about what he’s going to do in the next 2 days, so long term plans are an abomination for him. In short, a terrible person to start a project with. However, he’s funny, sarcastic, intelligent, and makes the world a better place for me when he’s around. Hopefully, he will be around for a while. Btw, we’re not native English speakers, so please be gentle. He hates dancing, hates running, loves beer, loves sweets (sometimes I just think he’s really trying to get diabetes) and doesn’t like to take decisions. I know I just described a sad old lady with arthritis, but he’s actually fun to hang around with.
